Day by Day Itinerary
Fly to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland where you will be transferred to the Arctic Gourmet Wilderness Cabins.
On arrival at the cabins, Johan and Malin, the owners, will meet and settle you into your cabin. After your travels the perfect tonic is to relax in the northern lights hot tub and soak up the arctic evening.
Dinner will be served in the cosy dining room adjacent to the cabin. Johan is a trained chef and his pride and joy is the ‘Chef’s table’. This has to be the smallest restaurant in Sweden with just 2 tables with views over the valley and a fitted kitchen where Johan will cook and serve your gourmet evening meals!
Sit outside afterwards around the camp fire, take a soothing sauna or jump back into the outdoor hot tub and relax with the prospect of a northern lights display flashing above you.
Meals included: Dinner
After breakfast your guide will pick you up for one of the highlights of your trip, driving a husky sled team in pristine Arctic wilderness.
Ylva Forssén is one of a select group of accomplished female husky guides, whose kennels are deep into the valley from where she runs very personal sled dog experiences. She has a very unique relationship with her dogs and we always feel it is a privilege to spend time with her.
Once you arrive at the kennels, get acquainted with the dogs and receive detailed instructions about how to drive a team. Harness the dogs and feel their excitement as you attach the sled. Head out into the frozen river valley where you will have opportunities to take turns in driving the team whilst making stops to take photos. The location is outside the major tourist areas and we can promise that you will enjoy pristine Arctic nature almost alone.
You will be out for around 2 hours before heading back to base for a warming lunch with the family. You are welcomed right into the heart of Ylva and Peter’s home for lunch.
Either return to the cabins for some siesta time or why not extend your husky experience by taking another wilderness husky tour in the afternoon. You will also be able to assist with the ‘warming down’ of the dogs and learn a bit about kennel craft (see optional extra).
This evening, enjoy dinner served by Johan and another night of relaxation around the outside fire, or take a sauna or hot tub for a great sense of wellbeing.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Snowmobile Safari on Private Trails. Transfer to Abisko the Northern Lights Capital
After breakfast experience a snowmobile trek through part of Europe’s last untouched wilderness. Driving out from Mattarahkka Lodge, run by our long term partner Andreas Mikko, the adventure takes you out in the wilderness following the guide’s own private snowmobile trails.
You will drive your snowmobile through the forest, over frozen lakes and the chance of seeing reindeer and moose in their natural habitat are always present.
Continue your excursion up to the mountain Eatnamvárri where fantastic scenery will display in front of you; miles and miles of untouched wilderness towards Kebnakaise, Sweden’s tallest mountain.
Back at the Lodge enjoy a traditional Sami lunch.
This afternoon transfer to Abisko, around a 1 hour journey. Check into Abisko Mountain Lodge, owned by Mina and Dick Johannson, and be issued with your arctic clothing for the rest of your northern lights holiday.
This evening, enjoy the fantastic cuisine at Abisko Mountain Lodge as you partake in their traditional Lappish menu which includes Reindeer, Arctic Char and Cloudberries – three of the unique ingredients to the area (vegetarian options are available).
During the winter nights when it is dark, depending on the correct weather conditions, it is possible to see the northern lights dancing in the sky around you from this fantastic vantage point.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Enjoy the lodge breakfast before a day trip to Norway or guided exploration of Abisko National Park.
This morning it is time to explore Abisko National Park with its frozen rivers, lake and canyon. The lodge team have some excellent walks that include lunch at the STF and return transfer.
This evening enjoy the fantastic cuisine at Mountain Lodge as you partake in their traditional Lappish menu which includes Reindeer, Arctic Char and Cloudberries – 3 of the unique ingredients to the area. The only thing that can interrupt your evening is the Aurora Call. Abisko Mountain Lodge is in a fantastic location for northern lights viewing so if they are out you may be tempted to step out the door and gaze skywards!
After dinner head out on your Ultimate Aurora Photography tour – an evening that provides a great opportunity to see and photograph the aurora borealis in the wilderness of Abisko National Park.
Abisko is situated in a low precipitation zone and has the lowest levels of rain and snow in Lapland. What this means is lots of perfect nights for aurora watching.
Walk right out the lodge front door and a snowmobile transfer will take you to an exclusive location with commanding views over the mountains and the lake, both of which provide wonderful backdrops for aurora photos! You will have 2 guides, one to instruct you and the other to look after you and make drinks etc. A yurt will be set up with a fire so you can warm up if necessary.
You will be supplied with cameras pre-set for aurora photography and spend the evening in Abisko National Park. Whether you are a pro or never taken a picture in your life, you have a great chance of going home after your northern lights holiday with some beautiful aurora photographs and memories that will last a lifetime!

Where You'll Stay
Abisko Mountain Lodge
Right in the small hamlet of Abisko, world renowned for the Northern Lights, lies a small welcoming Lodge run by our good friends Mina and Dick Johansson. Dick is one of the most qualified mountain guides in Sweden and looks after all the adventure whilst Mina can be described as a Skier, Creative CEO and ray of sunshine who lights up the Lodge.
Abisko Mountain Lodge offers genuine accommodation in an old-fashioned mountain hotel setting. The service is personal and the cuisine is centred on raw ingredients. It is accredited by the Sapmi Slow Food movement, an award which took 4 years to achieve. Chefs are dedicated slow-food addicts and produce wonderful nightly meals!
The 16 standard rooms in the low red ‘Swedish style house’ are all en-suite. Although basic they are warm and cosy. There are no televisions in the rooms as time is spent meeting guests around the bar or in the wonderful lounge area.
Additionally there are 4 new superior rooms added in early 2015. These four rooms are in a separate annexe and are used exclusively by Aurora nights.
Order a coffee or a glass of wine at the bar, read a magazine or spin a yarn about your arctic adventures and the magnificent aurora displays you have seen.
For those wanting to soothe the muscles there is a sauna.
Arctic Gourmet Wilderness Cabins
This is the inspiration of husband and wife team Johan and Malin who have developed a totally unique concept. They have 2 cosy wilderness cabins adjacent to the smallest restaurant in Sweden – where Johan acts as a private chef to our guests.
Arctic Gourmet Wilderness Cabins are new builds and combine wilderness with creature comforts not normally associated with a wilderness experience.
Situated in a picturesque valley they are perfectly placed for guests to combine both a northern lights and arctic adventure. For those of you that appreciate good food, meals prepared and served in the smallest restaurant in Sweden are a delight.
There are two cosy double bedded cabins with large glass windows facing north towards the northern lights horizon. Modern styling includes satellite TV!
There is an adjacent toilet and shower block and an outdoor hot tub which guests are invited to use.
After dinner sit around the outdoor fire, gaze at the stars and hopefully the aurora, enjoy a hot drink or a whisky and appreciate how special it is to own a piece of Lapland for moment in time!
Being away from it all in your own private space with the auroras roaring overhead is simply breath-taking and the perfect special occasion retreat!

An amazing trip and excellent service provided by all involved. Great value for money too. Food was excellent. Accommodation was wonderful and the trips booked were outstanding. An amazing trip
A well organised trip which was tailored to our specific requests. The arrangements all ran perfectly and any queries prior to the holiday were handled very quickly and professionally. The standard of accommodation and organised tours was very high. I would use this company again and recommend them.
An excellent holiday which was enjoyed by all. The super jeep ride on the second day to the Eyjafjallajokull volcano was memorable and thanks to our driver Margaret who proved to be a really good guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities in the hotel Ranga. The staff were very helpful and we managed to see the Northern Lights. The Hotel Reykjavik Centrum was very nice with amazingly helpful staff. All in all, the whole holiday was brilliant.
Overall very good. Staff excellent and helpful. Accomodation basic but was what we expected. Tour guides very good (nature walks, snow mobiles, dog sleighs). Sky station disappointing as we never got to go up due to the weather and this seem to be a recurring feature. The alternative walk at night and meal was a let down as a result.Overall would recommend to others.
We had five fantastic days in beautiful Iceland, as we had never been before Aurora Nights helped with everything and made the holiday so easy and stress free. We stayed at Hotel Ranga which was amazing, we very much enjoyed the tours and the guides were brilliant, very knowledgable and friendly. We will certainly be returning to Iceland and wouldn’t hesitate to book through Aurora Nights again, special thanks to Abigail as her experience and reccommendations made the trip even better.
We had a fantastic 4 nights that included glaciers, waterfalls, geysers, the aurora borealis and more! Lovely hotels, especially Hotel Ranga. We filled every moment and felt thoroughly invigorated on our return.
Hotel Ranga was perfect, with amazing food. It is in the middle of nowhere, very quiet and with the weather being bad there wasn’t the possibility of leaving the hotel in the evening so mightn’t suit all for that reason. Super Jeep tour we thoroughly enjoyed with 2 lovely guides.
Hotel Borg was in the perfect location. For us, one night in Reykjavik would be ample.
Blue Lagoon was a wonderful experience only heightened by the appearance of the northern lights on our walk home from dinner. All in all we had the best holiday and we plan to return to Iceland hopefully sooner rather than later.
We had the most fabulous time and everything worked like clockwork. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and extremely competent. The food was excellent and the experiences, especially Husky Homes, were brilliant. We saw the aurora lights at the mountain top in Abisko where the photography tour will be an enduring memory of a wonderful time. I would very much recommend Weekend a la Carte as a proficient tour operator.
