Aurora Nights reflects my passion for the Arctic and in particular Swedish Lapland , Iceland, Greenland and Norway.
15 Years ago we decided to launch Weekend a la Carte with the view to creating a series of once in a lifetime short breaks. Over the years the northern lights holidays we offer have grown and we feel that they deserve to be able to stand alone under the aurora nights banner.
We have pioneered many breaks over the years and were the first company to approach the Aurora sky station in Abisko with a view to opening it up to the UK traveller. Over the years we have had thousands of people travel with us to this destination and the vast majority have been fortunate to see the Aurora Borealis – One of Nature’s true spectacles!
We we are different to many companies in the depth of content of our itineraries. We believe in offering complete holidays where you are ensured of a great break even if you are the unlucky one who does not see the aurora.
We travel extensively through the region and have worked with many of our partners for a decade. We know the region inside out and are confident that you will not be able to get better advice on travel to the destinations we offer.
We look forward to assisting you realise your dream of seeing the northern lights.
Kevin Started Weekend a la Carte in 2004 with a view to providing real once in a lifetime experiences. Sweden has become a second home to Kevin and one that he feels a very strong connection with. Kevin has made many life long frienships working with our partners in the region and they in turn have taken excellent care of our clients. His favourite memory of seeing the aurora goes right back to the very first time he saw them. He was out in a snow storm at night, which when it abated revealed a full sky of multi coloured aurora pouring towards earth. Simply breathtaking and an experience that inspired him to bring this opportunity to as many clients as possible.
Abigail has spent 20 years in Marketing and Product Development, and over 25 years avidly travelling around the globe. Iceland and Greenland are Abigail’s Northern Lights focus and are special destinations for her as it brings to life all her Geography learning from University. Having travelled to both on many occasions Abigail is often heard extolling the magnificent scale and dramatic landscape of both Iceland and Greenland.
Jan lived in Hong Kong and Cyprus during her childhood as part of an RAF family which inspired the travel lust which has taken her to Iceland, Europe and Swedish Lapland in the last year!
Most of her working life has been spent in administration including time with the MOD but the prospect of travel (and seeing the Northern Lights) was too hard to resist joining us in 2014.
Hannah has been able to enjoy quite a few trips to Lapland including Kiruna, Abisko, Lulea and the Lofoten Islands. She found each had something special to offer, but she has two highlights.
The first was discovering the unspoilt, picturesque setting of the Tree Hotel near Lulea, the other witnessing the best display of the northern lights in Abisko. Quite an awe inspiring evening!
Hannah enjoys sharing her knowledge of the Swedish Lapland area with our clients, and has many a useful tip when it comes to photography for which she has a great passion for.
Shirley spent over 20 years working in the education sector before joining Weekend a la Carte so has lots of experience whipping people into shape!
She has always been interested in travel and in September travelled to Sweden. She found Sweden to be a stunning place and some of the experiences they offer truly outstanding. She saw the Northern Lights whilst staying at the IceHotel 365, and is the only person in the company lucky enough to stay in one of the new deluxe ensuite Art Suites in the Ice Hotel 365. She tells us it was very beautiful ….and very cold and would definitely recommend wearing a hat and socks to bed! , but is an experience she would not have missed for the world. Shirley is likely to be the first person you talk to when you phone the company
Weekend a la Carte Ltd is an ATOL bonded travel operator, ATOL NO: 6578. Most firms who sell air travel in the UK are required by law to hold such a bonded licence with the Civil Aviation Authority. ATOL protects you from losing money or being stranded abroad when a tour operator goes out of business.
ATOL is a protection scheme for flights and air holidays managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CCA). £2.50 per passenger is added onto the cost of your trip and is paid into the ATOL insurance protection scheme
This ethos and focus on creating special occasion breaks is carried across all of our four websites and is reflected in the reams of feedback we have received as to how much our personal caring service has resulted in the perfect trip.
